What is Biochar?
Biochar is a carbon-rich material obtained from plant biomass through a process called pyrolysis. At Cacau do Futuro (Cocoa of the Future), we use a portion of the cocoa pods to produce Biochar and enrich it with bio-inputs, creating a soil conditioner capable of improving water retention, increasing biological activity, and boosting crop yields. In addition to storing carbon in the soil for hundreds of years, Biochar can generate certified carbon credits, helping to offset part of our own carbon footprint and creating a new source of value for a more regenerative and sustainable production chain.

What stage is the project currently in?
Cacau do Futuro is currently in the implementation phase of its operation. We are structuring our network of partner producers, developing our first processing center, validating our proprietary processing technologies, and building a supply chain that fully utilizes the entire cacao fruit. In parallel, we continue to develop our products and establish strategic partnerships to ensure that every stage of the operation is scalable, efficient, and capable of generating a positive impact for the entire region.
Where will the first processing center be located?
Our first processing center will be established in Ilhéus, Bahia. In addition to being in the heart of Brazil's main cocoa-producing region, Ilhéus concentrates a large part of the logistical infrastructure that supplies the industry, facilitating the flow of production and connections with clients and partners. The city is also home to universities, research centers, and important institutions linked to cocoa farming, with which we intend to develop projects in innovation, research, talent development, and the overall strengthening of the entire production chain.
